More information about the treatment

Which can be the causes of ptosis??

  •  Myogenic: The upper eyelid levator muscle does not perform well
  •  Aponeurotic: aging and trauma cause the levator muscle to lengthen, causing the eyelid to drop.
  •  Neurogenic: It is an abnormality characterized by a lack of nervous stimulation in the muscle. As in myasthenia gravis or Marcus Gunn syndrome.
  • Mechanical: It occurs when there is a cyst or tumor in the upper eyelid causing excessive weight and a fall of the same.
Ptosis in children can cause amblyopia (lazy eye), by preventing normal visual development of the eye, so it is mandatory to intervene early if the eyelid occludes the pupil and thus avoid amblyopia.
Which is the treatment?

Surgery is the treatment is the most effective treatment. We handle multiple techniques that we apply depending on the cause of the ptosis and each specific case.

Our goal with surgery is to:

  • Repair the tendon
  • Elevator muscle shortening to increase capacity
  • Using agonist muscles such as Müller’s muscle (conjunctivomullerectomy) or frontal muscle (advance flap or frontal suspension)
Surgical techniques are performed under local anesthesia and without visible incisions.
